The complete functionality of Microsoft Windows Vista Media Center can now be enjoyed via new Extenders on up to 5 additional simultaneous TV's in your home based on a press release, "Microsoft Unveils Extenders for Windows Media Center and Internet TV Beta — Connected Entertainment Comes Home for the Holidays". The Media Center now functions as a media server powering whole home entertainment. Watch this Microsoft demo for more information.
Previously, only the XBOX 360 could be an Extender. D-Link, Linksys and Niveus Media announced their new Extenders that are dedicated appliances for connecting to a Media Center in an AV component form factor. The Extenders are silent, fanless and passively cooled. HP also announced that it's MediaSmart LCD HDTV's will also be upgraded to an embedded Extender client. The Extenders, such as the Niveus Media EDGE below, will be available in November 2007.
