OpenAppMkt Intros a Gatekeeper-free Web App Market for iDevices - 
Sure Steve & Co. has the App Store locked down to provide the best product experience possible — at least in their eyes. However, many popular websites offer mobile device compatible web apps that are now oftentimes on par, quality-wise, with native platform apps. Enter OpenAppMkt.com. This isn't necessarily up our content alley so to speak, but it is a significant piece of news. The OpenAppMkt.com app and store is now providing a parallel app store to Apple's app store. The big difference is that the Apple store has native iPhone and iPad apps that are approved for sale by Apple where Apple then takes a significant portion of the sale price. The OpenAppMkt store is for HTML5 web applications that are not native to the iPhone/ iPad, but seem to function virtually the same. The developer end up not needing approval to list their app int he store and keeps more of the sale price too.
Sure, approved apps can be better quality, but innovation may be stifled in the process. Additionally, these web apps can run on Apple devices, Android smartphones and others as well without modification. Check out the article. It has a great video of a rap to compare the 2 approaches.
